David Hoare.

This is daves latest result from this weekend.
He sent me an e-mail with is info, and told me the weather over there is in the high 70's to low 80's.
So were not jealous are we boys, and ladies. 70's, 80's whats that compared to rain, and cold, in this lovely climate of are's. I shall now take a break, and wipe away my tears, not through envy, but because  i got a fly in my eye?..... (yes i tell porkies too).

Okay back now.
Dave was telling me the spanish fish to CIPS rules, (i thought that was for runaway fathers).
That means no Feeder,no pellet, bread or paste. Maximum length of pole 13metres (i spelt metres right dave). Jeez the spanish might as well all take up golf, but then they would probably ban clubs?.
No wonder the ex-pats arrange there own match's. Dave's starting to learn the lingo now,so he can communicate with the local tackle shop owner, who can't speak english. (dave's probably been living there years,No hurry then dave).  Dave recides in a lovely little place called  Mazarron,  just outside the city of Murcia, Alicante, Spain. (hope interpol won't be interested in this information, as we here story's about ex-pats living in spain, who are of interest to crimewatch).
Okay thats enough of dropping Dave in the s---e.
Here's his results.

MAGGOTS END

RODS and REELS

This week saw the annual Christmas Fair match or for some of us “Fur and Feather match” and it was held on the Embalse de Pedrera. It is held now, so that as many club members as possible can fish, as quite a few go home for the Christmas period. The wind that had been blowing hard for several days had subsided, but only slightly. There were 26 anglers out so we were quite well spread around the venue. Jim the Chairman started the day with a blinder, he left his feeder rod at home, but in true British spirit, resorted to his waggler rod as a multipurpose feeder rod. At the end of the match he decided that the waggler rod does not make a good feeder rod as he hooked and lost 7 fish!!!!!. The Pedrera is still not fishing well, as of the 26 anglers out on the day there were 12 blanks. Top anglers on the day

1st Terry ( Swing E´m ) Screen fishing the feeder using banded pellet with 5.380 kilo´s.

2nd Alan ( The Emperor ) Roscoe fishing the feeder using pellet with 4.69 kilo´s.

3rd Paul ( Poco Loco ) Baxter fishing the feeder and using the whip for bleak with 3.780 kilo´s.

As you can see from the weights there is nothing to get excited about and we have not yet made the colder times ????.

Currently the club has a few vacancies for new members if you wish to join, please phone Sue Swann on 667407026. Membership is €5 joining fee and €20 subscription.

A personal thanks goes to Pete the Peg, and his erstwhile accomplice Stu Taylor, for getting the pegs for all the anglers on the venue, with virtually no stick ups. And to Bill Reade, for sorting the match out, getting the prizes and for generally making the day possible.

WATERSMEET. LYDNEY LAKE.

I can sum this match up in one sentence. WHAT A GRUELLER.

Draw was at 8.00am.  Where we all wanted to draw, was pegs 1 to 6,as this bank was the fancied bream pegs. But if you were greedy, peg 1 was the one you  wanted. I drew peg 4, so i was happy with that.
Pughy drew peg 1, and hopped, skipped, and, jumped to is peg.
Set up just the feeder, as this is the method that dominate's this venue. Loop to loop, set up, with 4lb main line, and 2.6lb bottom. Size 16s B611 Kamasan hook.
Groundbait was, 1 bag black swimstim, 1 bag sensas black, half bag korma(voodoo), and quarter bag of brasim. Plus my ingrediants,
Bait. Chopped worm, caster, and red maggot.
Whistle for the all in went at 9.00am. Cast, and, recasted six times, to get some bait down. Then it is sit on the hands job.  Had my first skimmer after 20 minutes, then promptly missed the next two bites.
We have a bit of a celeberty fishing for this club. His name is Chris Fortey. Plays profesional Rugby for Worcester Warriors. Cherry  and Whites (Gloucester RFC) reject. Is twin brother Lee, used to play for worcester, now retired, and coaches at Cinderford. They both packed up early, after throwing there dummies out of the pram, because they said it was crap. True it was crap, but stay to the end, the rest of us did.
Lee actually weighed in 2-5-0  before they left.  They left a good two hours before the end. With the weights at the end ,Lee probably packed up prematurly.
Had my second skimmer about an hour into the match, as everybody was struggling that was'nt to bad.
Oh! by the way Chris Fortey, and is wife, called there little baby boy william david. Okay not bad names, but if you put the baby;s initials before is last name, you have got. W.D.FORTY. Believe me he as not lived that one down.
Back to the fishing. One more skimmer came to the net, then the last three hours of diddly squatt, nothing, zilch. Richard who drew peg 11, on the unfancied bank, went for walk abouts, for half an hour, moaning to everyone, he has'nt had  a bite. Last hour he snared three bream, to walk the match, and win £75. Not bad for all the moaning he was doing. Beat both anglers either side of me, so did'nt do to bad. OH! also finished second.(thought i would throw that in).Fancied peg one, whack, whack oops, not this time eh! pughy.
Not much more to say about the match really, except one thing, it was hard, it was crap, and God in is humourous wisdom decided to let it p--s down for the last half hour of the match. Very wet indeed.

MEMORIES.

I have been fishing since i was 8 years old, when my grandfather, and father used to take me to the mighty river severn. Unlike today, where kids can go to commercial fisheries to ply there trade, and catch loads of fish. Everybody that as gone fishing will always remember there first fish they caught. Maybe a 2oz perch, from the local pond. Or a tiny codling from the beach. But when your fore fathers take you to the severn, it was a different story. They take you to a fishing spot they have been fishing for years, in this case it was called church rocks, near wesbury-on severn, just outside gloucester. Your mum tell's your dad, make sure he stay's clean?..Well! that was never going to happen. You get to the river bank, which is slippery with mud, and yes you fall flat on your face, hardly any clothing,or skin is left exposed. Your dad is running up,and down the bank, in total horror,of what your mum's going to do to him, when we get home. Your grand dad is holding is stomach, where it hurts so much, through laughting. Not because is grandson is filthy, but because he knows what is daughter is going to do to is son-in- law. My dad threw a wobbly, and said we were going home. My grand dad pointed out, whats the point in going home, we might has well stay, and do some fishing. Whats the difference, if morag kills you now, or later. (good point i suppose). Has a good move for my health, i decided to sit with my grand dad. He set my rod up, and then is own. Dad was fifty yards away still looking as red as a lobster. Setting is gear up, and mumbling something about mum. We started fishing, after my grand dad, put the worm on the hook ,and cast out for me.He put my rod on the rest, which came from a tree, shaped with a v at the top. He hardly cast is own rod out, when my rod was being jerked from the rest. GRAND DAD! i shouted, alot louder than needed to be. After he got over the near shock, of a heart attack, he leaned forward, and slipped, no messing, head first, with rod still in hand, straight in. Can you imagine it. Me 8 years old, holding on to my rod for dear life. Grand dad doing an impression of a seal, and dad coming to the rescue of my gramp. There was me shouting with excitement, that i have got a fish on to my dad, and forgetting about gramp, doing a very good drowning act. But my dad being a responsible adult, decided to save my grand dad, and totally ignored me. He dragged him out, getting covered in mud in the process. Now my gramp was getting on in age, even then. So you can imagine the state he was in, muddy, and soaked, just to name a few. There's me being an innocent 8 year old,( and not really grasping the fact, that gramps nearly went to heaven, alot quicker than he should of done). saying dad help me i have got a fish. My dad looked at me through a caked up face, with no real enthusiasm, and kind of snatched the rod out of my hands. HE then proceeded to land the most scariest fish i had ever seen. I thought it was a snake, and off up the bank i went. My first ever fish was a slimey eel. (yuk). It was about 1 and a half pound in weight, according to the two experts i was with. Well to me it looked like an anaconda snake. Alas because we were now in no fit state to fish, my fore fathers decided it was time to go home. Can you just imagine the picture on my mum's face when we got home. My mum hated my dad. my gran hated my dad. I got a hug, and a warm bath from mum. My grand dad got a hug from mum , and gran. My dad got nowt for is trouble's but grief, all day long. Well that was 42 years ago, NO doubt my gramp, gran, and parent's, are still talking about it up in heaven now. God bless them all. 42 years on, and now i still do a lot of fishing.

Do you think i'am a glutton for punishment, or what?

Isn't it funny, that not one of the incidents above, was any fault of my dad's, yet he got the rough end of the stick when we got home. Funny old game being a dad ain't it.

Tighten logic with malleable spanners

Wednesday, 11 November 2009

So the end of the warm weather,as crept up upon us.Dark mornings, when we arise from are weary sleep. The alarm sounds at 5.00am. No birds are singing, only the screeching of the sea gulls, who have made there home inland. You wash your weary body,to clear the sleep from your mind. If like me,by the time you have reached the kitchen,to make your morning beverage, you have stubbed your toe somewhere, and you know,it's not going to be your day. You check your kit, like you did, just before you went to bed,the pevious night. To the wife's unapproving look.
Now to do what anglers need to do,which is like a religion, you must force yourself to go to the toilet, before you leave the house.
Its time to leave, you give your self plenty of time for travelling. You stroke your pets, and strain your neck, just so you can here the wife snoring, which makes you smile, even thou your big toe is still throbbing.
You open the front door to load your kit aboard. THATS! when you
notice the frost as attacked all your  car windows.Panic sets in. You start to run around like a blue arsed fly. Scraping away like a maniac.Fifteen minutes later, you now throw your kit in the back, along with the baits. You jump in the motor, and now you become Sterling Moss,to make up time. If like me! now you've got to pull into the local garage, for diesel, grub, and ciggy's. (i was going to put fag's,but there might be some American readers, and that word means something totally different to  them). You pull out of the garage like a nutter, wondering if your going to make the draw. After all that, you arrive in plenty of time, with three minutes to go before the draw. Everyone looking at you, like you've got two heads or something. After a bit of stick, and paying your fee's, you put your hand in the draw bag praying for a good draw. When you  pull out that number, its like stubbing your toe all over again, its crap. Everyone laughting, and saying that will teach you for not getting here earlier.(bloody frost).Maybe if i would have kicked the dogs, instead of patting, and stroking them, i could of got here earlier. Or maybe if i had'nt stubbed my toe,and done the fangdango for ten minutes, i would have had a good draw. As you can see, this is absolutely not my fault, its a conspiracy.  Normally when you get to your peg, you put your gear down gently, but today for some reason it hits the ground faster than a conker falling from a tree. The match goes, (as by now, how you expect it) really, really crap. You pack your kit away, not with the love you normally give it. Then after the weigh in, which you have'nt participated in. You stand , and watch in envy as the brown envelope's, are handed out. Then when nobody's looking, you jump in the car, and drive off. Without as much as a goodbye, or a glance to any of your mate's. You pull up outside your castle, turning off the engine, you reflect, on what a sh---y day you have had. The gear stays in the motor, with you quietly praying someone will nick your car. You walk into the living room, and there sat on the settee, is your darling wife. She innocently asks. Had a good day love. So if the police ,and do gooders have read this. NOW do you understand about domestic violence. The RSPCA, may well ask why there are two dogs running up the street, with boot  marks on there arses. WELL NOW YOU NOW?? so there.

C'mon we've all had days like this.
