Got the Phone call Friday night. Don't bother with Saturday morning's peg clearing, as the place is impossible to get to. Great weather aint it. Will have to wait, and see, when we can do it.

Dave Hoare's Match Report.

Hi all, Dave's kindly sent is latest match result from Spain.
As you all know, the weathers been terrible here. With everything frozen up, or flooded i have'nt been any where. Saturday coming a few of us are off to do some peg digging at Drummonds Dubb  for our upcoming
winter series league. (Should be fun, i don't think). Shall take the camera, because something is bound to happen. So will post the pics after next Saturday. Cheers for now STEVE.

RODS and REELS.

The match this week was another open and held on the Rio Segura at the Eden canal.
This being the last match in 2009 we all hoped for a reasonable days fishing,
and for a change we were´nt disappointed.
All anglers caught with reasonable weights for the winners.
In saying that, not all was smooth for several anglers.
Stu Taylor managed to lose his top, 2 sections of pole after snagging on the far bank.
So the next we see is Stuart leaving the venue and watch him drive down the other side,
eye witness accounts state that he spent some 30 mins cutting down the foliage
on the far bank in order to retrieve lost pole section.
Alan Roscoe got snagged halfway across and in pulling his pole to release
from the obstruction he watched his top 2 sections release themselves from his
pole and slowly sink into the river.
Quick thinking, he rigged his feeder rod and spent some 40 mins dragging through
the swim to try to hook the sections.
Lucky for him he did, but after the disturbance it left the swim with little fish
for sometime. Well that´s fishing in Spain for you????.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Anglers Together enjoyed another successful year with members enjoying both sea,

and freshwater days out.
We also had a couple of day-trips around a lot of the waters in the Murcian region,
also a trip along the river Segura and surrounding area in the Valencian region.
Those who took part found it very useful as it is not always easy to describe which track to take.

We shall be having more trips in 2010 starting with a Trout fishing trip to

Hondon Trucha in February, weather permitting.
Anglers Together continues to grow as a club with firm friendships being formed
over the last 3 years.
Many members fish together regularly and report they are pleased to rejoin a sport
they followed in their youth. We have the occasional organized outing but the aim mainly
is to introduce members to find fishing companions and to assist in finding the venues.

The joining fee is €10 for new members and €5 for renewing members.
If you are interested in joining or finding out more about Anglers Together,
then either come along to one of the meetings or contact Dave below.

The next meetings are Friday February 5th at Pinar del Campoverde near Pilar de la Horadada
and Saturday 6th at Puerto de Mazarron, Los Galayos Bar/Restaurant. Both start at 12 o’clock.

MAY YOU ALL HAVE A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

The match this was an open match, and fished on the Rio Segura at Eden canal. 

It was transferred from Benijofar as the river had overflowed it´s bank there. 

Again, the weather playing a major influence as to where we fish. 

The day in itself wasn´t bad, temperatures up to 20 degrees. 

However come 1 o´clock the wind got up and caused some damage like, 3 people had their poles broken. 

Along with that, Bill ( I can´t get up ) Botting, who brought Jim ( The Chairman ), 

arrived some 1 hour late. Both started fishing and Jim on a good peg, 

caught one of the local animals that are resident in this stretch and after managing to steer 

it clear of the weeds and snags went for his landing net, to find the wind had blown it into the river. 

Undeterred he guided it to the bank to hand net it, only to find in the last moment a quick 

swish of the tail,  and it was gone. 

Jim has since written to Father Christmas and asked for a landing net with a magnetic handle, 

so it will stay firmly attached to his box !!!.

SHORE and BOAT FISHING.

A few members spent each week during November/December fishing off the beaches around Mazarron 

without catching anything to talk about.  

They used bread as the bait and would have expected to catch good size Mullet at this time of year, 

but that was not to be.

Boat fishing at the start of November was good with several fish caught from Dolphin fish to Trigger and Bass, all large enough for the dinner table.  

However, at the end of November the fishing was poor with a couple of small rock fish caught.

That time of year has normally been good fishing for both boat and beach so we can only continue 

each week and see what happens.

Gloucester Angling Centres Winter League.

The match was supposed to be fished Sunday just gone.

The Gloucester Canal was frozen up solid, so they all decided to stay in bed. Did'nt want to get there little toes, and fingers Cold. (Bless). Well there are Anglers, and there are Real Anglers, shan't say no more.

The match as been reorganised for January. Sorry bout that.

The match this week was the 6th in the winter championship.

This is a series of 11 matches with the best 8 to count.

It was held on the Rio Segura at the Eden canal.

The venue being changed at the last minute from the Pedrera,

due to the inclement weather conditions.

As the match started the river was flowing with pace,

but slowly reduced during the match, with a drop in the water level of some 18 inches.

All anglers caught, although the weights were fairly low.

Top rods on the day

1st Clive ( Golf no more ) Cleghorn fishing the pole using maggot with 5.96 kilo´s.

2nd Jim ( The Chairman ) Rouse fishing the feeder using maggot with 5.42 kilo´s.

3rd Bill ( Big Truck ) Botting fishing the pole using maggot with 4.60 kilo´s.

PERMALI'S CHRISTMAS MATCH.

DATE.    Sunday 19th December.

CLUB.    permali.

VENUE.   Stone End Farm.

Draw.    8.30am. Posponed until 9.30am. For ice Breaking.

FISH.    10.30am to 3.30pm.

10 Anglers Fished.

Post Match.

Brrrrr! Cold or what. Arrived at the lake, at 8-15am. Lake was frozen solid.

10 out of 10 Anglers turned up, all early as well.

So our first thought's turned to breaking the ice. 

(Mine was slipping off home).

Jason sawed a Thick branch off a tree,and tied some rope to it. 

He started to break the ice with is new invention, and was doing a good 

job in trying to sort out 10 swims. 

When he was clearing the fifth swim, i think he forgot to let go of the log 

when he threw it. Yup, one severe booty 

It warmed the rest of us up slightly though, through laughing. 

That was the second bad thing to happen to Jason so far this morning. 

The first was, he had to borrow Charlie £15, as he forgot is wallet. 

Do things come in 3's, well you will have to wait, and find out.

Anyway as Jason was busy clearing the swims, with nine Bosses watching 

on, we noticed a little rowing boat, which we quickly confiscated.

We dragged it over to the lake, and volunteered Adrian to 

get into the boat, and take over swim clearing duties. 

The not so impressed Adrian got into the boat, and we pushed it out.

He was using a kid's sand shovel for a paddle.

To be honest to our amazement it was a lot quicker, and we had the swims cleared out with'in no time.

The Draw.

In went my chubby little fingers, and out popped Peg 6.

Was this a good peg, i don't know, lets face it what's a good peg this

time of year. All i can remember about this peg, was when i was 

doing the match report for Gloucester Angling's winter league. 

Doug had this peg, which was peg 9 in there match,  and he did 

not weigh in.

It was a hell of a lot warmer then. But being optimistic, i thought we

were all going to blank anyway, so it did'nt matter where you were drawn. 

Adrian drew next to me on Peg 7, and decided to clear the ice all 

the way up to the Island. Fair play we thought he was a bit loopy, 

as there is only 2 foot of water by the Island.

I set up the Pole ,and shipped it out to the edge of the ice,which was

at 11 metres. Plummed up and found a nice depth of around five 

and a half feet. The bait i brought with me was, 6mm, and 4mm Expanders. 

2mm micro pellets, half pint of mixed maggots,and a packet of Stilton cheese. 

Set up one top, as by now i could'nt be arsed, it was bloody cold. -4 degrees.

The Match.

The all in went at 9.30am. 

Roy to my left on peg 5, could only fish out to about 6 metres, 

as that was where the edge of is ice was,and he could'nt be arsed either, 

to clear out anymore ice.(Funny how a cold day, and the prospect of 

never seeing your float go under, can get to your state of mind). 

I started on the 6mm pellet, with about 10 micro pellets potted out on my

poles toss pot.Adrian started on the pole, and after an hour changed to 

the rod, over to the Island, why not, no one had, had a bite so far.

Is casting is very accurate, and he was fishing about 1foot from the Island, 

in about 2 feet of water. None of us could get a bite in a good depth of water,

so what was Adrian expecting. Well what the hell  do we know, 

YEP! Adrian caught the first fish, a little carp of about 8oz's. 

Followed about ten minutes later by another one of the same size. 

(don't you just hate smart arses). After 2 hours without a bite,

 i changed to the Stilton cheese. 10 minutes later while the float was just sat

there admiring the sky, i was lighting up a ciggy, with my pole resting  on my 

spray bar. So now for the first time, my hands are off the pole in those 10 

minutes, Yep down she goes, by the time i reacted the float had come 

back up.Just cheers up your day no end, don't it. 

Missed three bites in total, before i hooked my first fish of the day, 

on the cheese. A nice plump carp was in the net, about 5 pounds.

(baggin machine, or what).

My peg plus pegs 7,8,9, and 10 started catching steady in the last couple 

of hours, although there was a lot of very small carp coming out.

By now i had changed back to the pellet, as the bites on the cheese were 

to few, and far between.

Brian on peg 4, and dale on peg 3 started catching now, but again only very 

small carp. Roy to my left did'nt start catching until the last hour. 

Adrian by now was back on the pole. Dickie on peg 9 was catching the fastest, 

so he was clear leader.

With 10 minutes to go dickie latched into, and landed a carp for about 6 pounds, 

and we all thought that was it, all over. Adrian then latched into 2 carp, one after 

the other, they where both 5 pounders, so now dickie was very worried.

On the whistle for the all out Adrian had another carp on, which after a minute 

he lost, he reckoned it was about a pound and a half, and he said laughing that, 

that lost fish would lose him the match. How those words would come back, and

bite him on the arse at the weigh in.

The Weigh In.

Peg 10 weighed in first, Andy had just over 10lb. Peg 9 Dickie weighed in 20lb. 

Peg 8 Nick weighed 9lb. Adrian on peg 7 The lost fish maestro weighed in 

19lb-12oz. 4oz short of Dickie, Yep that lost fish certainly did cost you mate. 

Peg 6 me, weighed in 9 and a half pound. Roy on peg 5 had 4lb. Bri on peg 4

weighed 2 and a half pound. Dale on peg 3 had 8 and a half pound. 

Remember in the post match above, how i said does things come in 3's, well on 

peg 2 Jason BLANKETY BLANKED. Fair play Jason if there was ever a 

case of staying in bed this morning, this was it?. Peg 1 Charlie weighed 3lb.
