DAVE'S RESULTS FROM SPAIN.

MAGGOTS END.

RODS and REELS.

This weeks match was the 9th round of the Winter Championship.
A series of 11 matches with the best 8 to count.
The match was held on the aptley named 8 foot drain.
Due to the fact that although it is only 6 meters wide the depth is
anywhere between 8 – 10 feet.
It does seem strange fishing the top 3 sections of your pole to hand and catching fish.
The drain fished well on the day with only a couple of dry nets.
Big fish are scattered throughout the stretch, with Stu Taylor weighing
in 6+ kilo´s with 2 fish.
One being 4.300 kilo´s in old money 91/2 lbs.

Top rods on the day.

1st Terry ( Swing e´m ) Screen fishing the pole using maggot with 7.980 kilos.
2nd Lenny ( Excultural Attache ) Bolton same method with 7.00kilos.
3rd Bill ( The Master ) Reade same method with 6.62 kilos.

Accumulative points to date

1st Paul Baxter with 58 points
2nd Dave Hoare with 59 points
3rd Bill Reade with 69 points.

2 matches to go and still anybody´s trophy.

PERMALI'S WINTER LEAGUE.

DATE:- 21st FEBRUARY 2010.

VENUE:- DRUMMONDS DUBB.
DRAW:- 8-45AM.
FISH:- 10.00AM TO 3.00PM.

PRE MATCH SUMMARY.

First of all i would like to say that our 14 man series,
as now become a 12 man series.
Charlie Chang as now decided to drop out of the winter league,
and so has Adrian Davis. What riles me is we had a back up list,
with 4 Anglers who wanted to fish it.But being the third match
into the series, there's no way they are going to fish.

Charlie's excuse is he missed the first two matches.
Adrian's excuse is our series clashes with Manor Farm's series.

So why the hell did'nt they just not bother, and say something
before the series started, that way we could have brought in the
next two on the waiting list. This affects the pay outs on the day,
plus on the overall payouts.

Well done you two, i hope you both have a shite year's fishing.
They are now both banned from fishing any future series.

THE DRAW.

If someone asks you to draw there peg number, don't do it.
Because Dickie was doing all the paperwork for the draw,
someone had to draw his peg first, and because i was standing next
to Brian Dix,who happened to have the draw bag in is hand,i
was elected.Everybody wanted pegs 6,7,8,or9,as these are in the
deepest part of the lake, and were the top weights in the
last match.Except peg 6,as it as not been drawn before.
But we all know it is on the same par as peg 7.

So i put my paw in the bag,and drew peg bleeding 6.Can't draw
the buggers for myself.
Well i thought i might be able to do the magic twice,
so put my mitt back in,and drew peg 4,my heart sank,13 ounces came
off this peg last week. That's the third match i have drawn on the road side bank.
Jeezus! i most have done something real bad in my last life.

FIRST,AND LAST TIME I EVER DRAW FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

"shock horror" MR grin from ear to ear (andy salcombe) did not draw
PEG 7.No he drew peg 10 on the far bank, the last weight off here was
12 ounces.( cheered me up a bit).
Poor old Barry drew peg 2 again.(suicidal or what).
Peg 7 went to Tommy, he seemed very happy about that.
Only two good pegs left.
They went to Steve Bee, peg 8,and Terry Raybould, peg 9.
The rest were'nt to pleased.Bri Dix again, for the third time drawing
the far bank.

SECTIONS.

SECTION A.

Peg 2. B.Matthews. Peg 3. J.wellington. Peg 4. Yours truly.
Peg 5. S.Evans. Peg 6.D.Lewis. (my peg really) Peg 7. T.Warner.

SECTION B.

Peg 8. S.Bee. Peg 9. T.Reybould. Peg 10. A.Salcombe.(tee he).
Peg 11. N.Willis. Peg 12. R.Bowd. Peg 13. B.Dix.

THE MATCH.

The water was still clear, so we thought it was going to be another grueller.
Jason had 13 ounces off peg 4 last match,he had 6 roach in the last hour.
I decided to fish the feeder for an hour,if i had no indication by then,
i was going to fish the pole, and hopefully wait to see if the roach would
turn up earlier. Jason told me that he stayed on the feederlast match,
hoping the skimmers would turn up,but they did'nt.
Thats why i thought i will target the roach,if nothing happens in the first
hour with the skimmers. So my first hour went by without a bite on the feeder.
Hell! i might as well watch a float all day, than the end of a rod.

So out went the the pole at 12.5 metres, just over the ledge.
On this line i fed a cupful of finely chopped worm, with a sprinkling
of maggots. After half an hour my float went under, and 10 seconds later a
1 ounce perch was in the net.First target of the day was accomplished, no
blanking for me today. The second hour i had 2 perch, and one roach in
the net for a grand total of about 4 ounces.Time to make decisions,
so out went two cupfuls of very finely chopped worm, fishing maggot
over the top.Within 10 minutes it was like flicking a switch, the roach
turned up in numbers. They were small, so i tried a piece of worm on the
hook, and that seemed to sort out the better one's.At the end of the match,
i had 6 perch, and 65 roach. That's 71 fish, so you can imaging how many times
i had to ship the pole in,and out.At 12.5 metres it was mental?
I tried to bring the fish in closer, but they would'nt budge, from the
bottom of the shelf. But one cannot complain, no what i mean.

I weighed in 1 ounce short of 8lb.At the begining of the match, we
anglers in section A new if you did,nt draw pegs 6 or 7 you were
fishing for third.Poor old Barry on peg 2 had had enough,he packed
up after 3 hours, without getting a single bite.Is traveling partner
Richard, drew peg 12, he did'nt even set up, so walked around for
3 hours.(can't work that out,you don't try you will never know).
Jason on peg 3, caught a 2 ounce roach, straight away, and did'nt
have another bite all day. As expected pegs 6,and 7 finished top two.
Peg 7 beat me by 3 ounces, and peg 6 by 12 ounces, so i was gutted.
Another half dozen roach, and i could of pinched the section.
Steve Evans on peg 5, had the same amount of fish as me, but
fished the maggot on the hook. So maybe my ploy with the chopped
worm worked,or i just got lucky. So sshhhh! don't tell anyone, it's our
little secret.
Steve bee in section B, won is section comfortably off peg 8,
with 17lb. For some reason peg 9 went tits up, can't be the
angler, as terry is a very good silver fish maestro.Maybe he just had
one of those days.Brian on peg 13 came second with nearly 4lb.
How did Andy do on peg 10, do you wan't to know, okay then!
He "blanked",so he is human after all.Did i laugh, only behind is back.

POST MATCH.

To be honest i thought i was in for another grueller, but had quite an
enjoyable day.(even though my arms are dropping off from shipping in,
and out all day).
Before the match i had to laugh at Dickie, i swear
the old buggers going senial. After the draw he unloaded Jason's kit
from his van. Then drove off to his peg.Leaving Jason bemused. As Jason
was only 3 pegs past Dickie. So with a 100 yard walk with is kit,
he passed Dickie, and walked on to his peg, still shaking his head.

Well done Dickie cheered me up a bit that.I would have shot him if
that would have been me.One of Dick's daughters read's this blog,
so if she is reading this,"get him checked out".

GLOUCESTER ANGLING CENTRE'S WINTER LEAGUE.

We have come to the penultimate (big word for me) round of the series.

With eleven of the twelve anglers fishing Round 7.
Talk about an up,and down series. Dale was apparently going on holiday
during one of these matches, but now thats changed, so he will fish them all.
Bad news for the rest of the lads. Bit unconsiderate of you Dale!(tee he).

The weights were a lot lower than Babcocks weights of last week, which was
expected for the shite weather we've had just recently.
Still everyone who fished weighed in, EXCEPT one, aye! Doug.
I know i blanked at Drummonds, but its bad policy taking the micky out of
one's self.

12. D.BLAKE.  4.4.4.3.3.3.4  = 25.  WORST 4. = 21. 16-15-8.

With one match to go, you could say that the top four all
have a good chance of winning it. Macker, and rob wood,
would have to catch over 80lb to have any chance,
and thats if dale finishes 4th in the section with a
crap weight.Jerry's only 4lb behind Dale so it could be done.
Dale has'nt had a 4th in section,so it probably won't happen.

So that means its probably only a three horse race.
But we all know fishing can jump up,and bite yer bum.
So who knows?.We will have to wait, and see.

Permali's winter league is this Sunday, hope its not another
grueller. Will let you know how i have done on this one,
after Sunday. Last chance God, give me a good peg Please!
or else i will become a politician (they gotta be old nick's mate).
Have a good week ends fishing, and all the best,

DAVE HOARE'S LATEST RESULTS.

MAGGOTS END.

RODS and REELS.

ROUND TOWN NEWS CHALLENGE CUP.

This week was the first round of the RTN Challenge Cup.

A series of 4 matches over the next couple of months.
( Again, thanks to RTN for sponsoring this series).
The match was held on the Rio Segura at the Eden canal stretch.
There are 2 teams contesting with 12 anglers in each team.
One team will fish the odd numbers and the other even numbers up to 24.
There are 4 sections 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 & 19-24.
The winner of each section gets 6 points down to 1 point and no points
if you have a dry net.
Points are then added up and this denotes the winning team.
The points are then carried through the series, and accumulatively added up.
If both teams score the same points then it is decided on weight.
The day although windy in the morning, eased down during the day however,
it never improved the fishing.
As was said before, English winter league in the sun.
There were some dry nets and this really influenced the overall result.
A superb catch from John Winstanley on a grim day and against all the odds
the river would produce a good weight like this, and also he was in my team.

Section weights and winners on the day

Section 1-6 Rob ( Lenny´s mate ) Harrop fishing the pole using bread punch with 5.58 kilo´s
Section 7-12 John ( I don´t believe it ) Winstanley fishing the feeder using corn 8.64 kilo´s.
Section 13-18 Stuart ( I´m married again ) Taylor fishing the feeder using maggot with 2.240 kilo´s.
Section 18-24 Dave ( Yours Truly ) Hoare fishing the feeder using worm with 2.00kilo´s.

Overall points on the day.

A team 1st team

Section 1-6 11 7
Section 7-12 12 8
Section 13-18 6 9
Section 19-24 0 11

Overall points 29 35

A QUICK GUIDE TO SOME KNOTS .
TIGHT LINES.

DAVE HOARE.

Here's one of Dave's jokes, i thought it was good.

A teacher asks the class to name things that end with 'tor' that eat things.

The first little boy says, "Alligator."
"Very good, that's a big word."

The second boy says, "Predator."
"Yes, that's another big word. Well done."

Little Johnny says, "Vibrator, Miss."
After nearly falling off her chair, she says,
"That is a big word, but it doesn't eat anything."

Litle Johnny answers.
"Well my sister has one and she says it eats batteries like there's no tomorrow!"

Glos Anglings latest result will be uploaded towards the end of the week.
Until then bye for now STEVE.

PERMALI'S WINTER LEAGUE.

ROUND 2.

VENUE:- DRUMMONDS DUBB.
DRAW :- 9.15AM.
FISH :- 10.15AM TO 3.15PM.

Pre-Draw.

Charlie Chang could'nt turn up for this one today,as his Grandmother
is Chinese, and he had to take her out for the Chinese new year.
Thats his excuse, and he's sticking to it. But at least he did give notice,
so Dickie arranged for young Lewis Bolton to Guest for the match.
We thought great back to 14 Anglers. "Wrong" Adrian Davis did'nt
put in an appearance. Well done Adrian?.

THE DRAW.

As i said in my last post (pleasure fishing) Pegs 6,and 7 on the road side,
or any peg on the far bank is where i wanted to draw. Well God was obviously
off playing Golf somewhere, instead of giving me a decent draw.

My mitts went into the draw bag,and out popped peg bleeding 1, the worst
one to draw,as this peg blanked in the last match of the series.
The lake was gin clear, i could see the bottom ring on my keepnet,as
clear as if it was out of the water. Steve Evans said he would draw
peg 14, and the bugger did.
Now i need Andy Salcombe to do my lottery numbers, as the jammy so,
and so drew peg 7 again, with peg 6 vacant (again) because Adrian
did'nt turn up,and that was the last peg in the bag.
What's the bleeding chance of that. If shite was luck, he would
have the runs, and i would be constipated.

Myself, and Andy are now the only two who have drawn this side twice.
Mind you Andy was'nt complaining. Richard Bowd was happy, he drew
peg 12. After drawing peg 1, and blanking on the first match.
His happiness was'nt to last long though. Barry Matthews drew
next to me on peg 2, another not so happy chappy.
Terry Reybould drew peg 8, the one i pleasure fished on Wednesday.
He knew how i done on this peg, so he was fairly happy.
Bri Dix drew peg 9. On the far bank again? jammy git!.

The draw went as follows.

Secion A.

Peg 1. Me (deeply depressed). Peg 2. B.Matthews (fairly depressed).
Peg 3. S.Bee (not over excited). Peg 4.J.Wellington (Not very amused).
Peg 5. N.Willis (Better than the last four). Peg 6. Adrian dipped out.
Peg 7. A.Salcombe (ear to ear bleeding grin).

Section B.

Peg 8. T.Reybould.(All Anglers on this bank very happy).
Peg 9. B.Dix. Peg 10. T.Warner. Peg 11. D.Lewis. Peg 12. R.Bowd.
Peg 13. L.Bolton (guest).Peg 14. S.Evans. (biggest grin for that bank).

THE MATCH.

GGGGGGGRUELLER!. The all in went at 10.15pm. Fed the pole line with
two small balls of Groundbait, and a small amount of pinkies, at 12.5 metres,
over the ledge. Then went straight on the feeder, fed a minimum of chopped worm
in the feeder with groundbait, single red maggot on the hook.
Too cut a long, and painful story short, i tried single red maggot, double red maggot,
single pinkie, double pinkie, four pinkies, pellet, and corn, what did i catch,
jack poo, thats what i caught. 5 hours, not a single bite.
(where the hell have i put that rope). Jeezus thats twice this peg as blanked now.

The summary of this match is as follows.

Section A.

Barry peg 2 Blanked. Steve.B.Peg 3. One 3 ounce roach, caught 15 minutes from time.
(jammy git, one bite one fish).Jason. Peg 4 Never had a bite until the last half hour,
and then preceeded to catch a flurry of small roach up to the whisle.
Half an hour from blanking (jammy sod).
Nick. Peg 5. (the peg i had last time) caught 2 skimmers, and 1 roach.
Peg 7 MR grin from ear to ear bagged up (please do my lottery numbers).

Section B.

Terry. peg 8. Caught well through out. Brian Peg 9. Caught reasonably well through out.
Tommy. Peg 10. 1 skimmer. Dickie. Peg 11. Blanked. Richard. Peg 12. Blanked (again tee he).
Lewis. Peg 13.Blanked (guests are allowed to blank too). MR i want Peg 14, and got it. Blanked.

POST MATCH SUMMARY.

Hang on let me stop laughing, or is it crying. Must be laughing, because us big boys
don't cry do we. (Boo hoo). The water was clear as glass, it started to get a bit misty in
the deepest Part of the lake. Which happened to be where Pegs 6,7,8, and 9 were.
Thats where all the bloody fish were caught. So next week in our third match of the
series, if its still clear, is where i bet, 14 Anglers will want to be.
So whats the chances of me drawing one of them, probably the same as the pope
popping around for a cup of tea. No doubt Andy will draw one of them.
Am i bitter, and twisted. Bloody right i'am. Am i going to quit fishing, and take
up Golf, just a thought. ROLE ON SUMMER.

HERE'S JUST A FEW.

The boys raring to go.

At least half of them are ready for the draw.

Andy ready for the weigh in.

So that's what the buggers look like.

Nice winning bag of skimmers.
 (very painful looking at this).

Andy's winning weigh.

Time to laugh at the blankers. (ready to go home).

Round 3 is next sunday, please, please be a better day.
Well that's it for this crap day for most of us.

Gloucester angling centre's 7th round was fished today as well, i will get the
results from Jerry, and upload them. They are fishing at Stone End Farm.
Last week Babcocks fished there first winters league match there, and had a
cracking day. The weather was milder then, but the weights were brilliant for
this time of year. Brian Dix won the match with a very impressive 170LB.
Jason Wellington came second with 80LB+.
There were a few 70Lb+ bags as backup weights.
Well done lads very impressive.
Back down to Earth this week though, aye boys. tee he.

Anyway how come i did'nt get an invite to join your winters league then.
You would of needed some one who comes last regular, and
i fit the bill perfect. Plus no doubt i would have drawn the shite pegs, so you
lot could of had the good ones.

Well that's a few Christmas cards i will save on this year.

Hope you enjoyed reading this, and had a better days fishing.
So for now, all the best STEVE.
