DAVE'S RESULTS FROM SPAIN.

MAGGOTS END.

RODS and REELS.

This weeks match was the 9th round of the Winter Championship.
A series of 11 matches with the best 8 to count.
The match was held on the aptley named 8 foot drain.
Due to the fact that although it is only 6 meters wide the depth is
anywhere between 8 – 10 feet.
It does seem strange fishing the top 3 sections of your pole to hand and catching fish.
The drain fished well on the day with only a couple of dry nets.
Big fish are scattered throughout the stretch, with Stu Taylor weighing
in 6+ kilo´s with 2 fish.
One being 4.300 kilo´s in old money 91/2 lbs.

Top rods on the day.

1st Terry ( Swing e´m ) Screen fishing the pole using maggot with 7.980 kilos.
2nd Lenny ( Excultural Attache ) Bolton same method with 7.00kilos.
3rd Bill ( The Master ) Reade same method with 6.62 kilos.

Accumulative points to date

1st Paul Baxter with 58 points
2nd Dave Hoare with 59 points
3rd Bill Reade with 69 points.

2 matches to go and still anybody´s trophy.

PERMALI'S WINTER LEAGUE.

DATE:- 21st FEBRUARY 2010.

VENUE:- DRUMMONDS DUBB.
DRAW:- 8-45AM.
FISH:- 10.00AM TO 3.00PM.

PRE MATCH SUMMARY.

First of all i would like to say that our 14 man series,
as now become a 12 man series.
Charlie Chang as now decided to drop out of the winter league,
and so has Adrian Davis. What riles me is we had a back up list,
with 4 Anglers who wanted to fish it.But being the third match
into the series, there's no way they are going to fish.

Charlie's excuse is he missed the first two matches.
Adrian's excuse is our series clashes with Manor Farm's series.

So why the hell did'nt they just not bother, and say something
before the series started, that way we could have brought in the
next two on the waiting list. This affects the pay outs on the day,
plus on the overall payouts.

Well done you two, i hope you both have a shite year's fishing.
They are now both banned from fishing any future series.

THE DRAW.

If someone asks you to draw there peg number, don't do it.
Because Dickie was doing all the paperwork for the draw,
someone had to draw his peg first, and because i was standing next
to Brian Dix,who happened to have the draw bag in is hand,i
was elected.Everybody wanted pegs 6,7,8,or9,as these are in the
deepest part of the lake, and were the top weights in the
last match.Except peg 6,as it as not been drawn before.
But we all know it is on the same par as peg 7.

So i put my paw in the bag,and drew peg bleeding 6.Can't draw
the buggers for myself.
Well i thought i might be able to do the magic twice,
so put my mitt back in,and drew peg 4,my heart sank,13 ounces came
off this peg last week. That's the third match i have drawn on the road side bank.
Jeezus! i most have done something real bad in my last life.

FIRST,AND LAST TIME I EVER DRAW FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

"shock horror" MR grin from ear to ear (andy salcombe) did not draw
PEG 7.No he drew peg 10 on the far bank, the last weight off here was
12 ounces.( cheered me up a bit).
Poor old Barry drew peg 2 again.(suicidal or what).
Peg 7 went to Tommy, he seemed very happy about that.
Only two good pegs left.
They went to Steve Bee, peg 8,and Terry Raybould, peg 9.
The rest were'nt to pleased.Bri Dix again, for the third time drawing
the far bank.

SECTIONS.

SECTION A.

Peg 2. B.Matthews. Peg 3. J.wellington. Peg 4. Yours truly.
Peg 5. S.Evans. Peg 6.D.Lewis. (my peg really) Peg 7. T.Warner.

SECTION B.

Peg 8. S.Bee. Peg 9. T.Reybould. Peg 10. A.Salcombe.(tee he).
Peg 11. N.Willis. Peg 12. R.Bowd. Peg 13. B.Dix.

THE MATCH.

The water was still clear, so we thought it was going to be another grueller.
Jason had 13 ounces off peg 4 last match,he had 6 roach in the last hour.
I decided to fish the feeder for an hour,if i had no indication by then,
i was going to fish the pole, and hopefully wait to see if the roach would
turn up earlier. Jason told me that he stayed on the feederlast match,
hoping the skimmers would turn up,but they did'nt.
Thats why i thought i will target the roach,if nothing happens in the first
hour with the skimmers. So my first hour went by without a bite on the feeder.
Hell! i might as well watch a float all day, than the end of a rod.

So out went the the pole at 12.5 metres, just over the ledge.
On this line i fed a cupful of finely chopped worm, with a sprinkling
of maggots. After half an hour my float went under, and 10 seconds later a
1 ounce perch was in the net.First target of the day was accomplished, no
blanking for me today. The second hour i had 2 perch, and one roach in
the net for a grand total of about 4 ounces.Time to make decisions,
so out went two cupfuls of very finely chopped worm, fishing maggot
over the top.Within 10 minutes it was like flicking a switch, the roach
turned up in numbers. They were small, so i tried a piece of worm on the
hook, and that seemed to sort out the better one's.At the end of the match,
i had 6 perch, and 65 roach. That's 71 fish, so you can imaging how many times
i had to ship the pole in,and out.At 12.5 metres it was mental?
I tried to bring the fish in closer, but they would'nt budge, from the
bottom of the shelf. But one cannot complain, no what i mean.

I weighed in 1 ounce short of 8lb.At the begining of the match, we
anglers in section A new if you did,nt draw pegs 6 or 7 you were
fishing for third.Poor old Barry on peg 2 had had enough,he packed
up after 3 hours, without getting a single bite.Is traveling partner
Richard, drew peg 12, he did'nt even set up, so walked around for
3 hours.(can't work that out,you don't try you will never know).
Jason on peg 3, caught a 2 ounce roach, straight away, and did'nt
have another bite all day. As expected pegs 6,and 7 finished top two.
Peg 7 beat me by 3 ounces, and peg 6 by 12 ounces, so i was gutted.
Another half dozen roach, and i could of pinched the section.
Steve Evans on peg 5, had the same amount of fish as me, but
fished the maggot on the hook. So maybe my ploy with the chopped
worm worked,or i just got lucky. So sshhhh! don't tell anyone, it's our
little secret.
Steve bee in section B, won is section comfortably off peg 8,
with 17lb. For some reason peg 9 went tits up, can't be the
angler, as terry is a very good silver fish maestro.Maybe he just had
one of those days.Brian on peg 13 came second with nearly 4lb.
How did Andy do on peg 10, do you wan't to know, okay then!
He "blanked",so he is human after all.Did i laugh, only behind is back.

POST MATCH.

To be honest i thought i was in for another grueller, but had quite an
enjoyable day.(even though my arms are dropping off from shipping in,
and out all day).
Before the match i had to laugh at Dickie, i swear
the old buggers going senial. After the draw he unloaded Jason's kit
from his van. Then drove off to his peg.Leaving Jason bemused. As Jason
was only 3 pegs past Dickie. So with a 100 yard walk with is kit,
he passed Dickie, and walked on to his peg, still shaking his head.

Well done Dickie cheered me up a bit that.I would have shot him if
that would have been me.One of Dick's daughters read's this blog,
so if she is reading this,"get him checked out".
