GOOD LOOKING CHAP.
With a nice bag of carp.

TODAY'S MATCH, SOLHAMPTON.

hi all.
Well another one over.

We all met at strensham services. No one was late. (that on its own was an achievment). We had  a convoy, to the fishery. Had ourselves a breakfast, and a cup of tea. Bought  3 bags of pellets, two 4mm, and one micro. At the draw i drew peg 24, which really did'nt mean a lot, as i never fished the place before.
Got to my peg and set up for the margins, and out in front of me at 5 metres. Whistle  for the all in went at 9.30am. Fed the margins with sweetcorn. Used the toss pot to feed my 6 metre swim. Fed 4mm through the pot. 6 mm on the hook. My match went as follows. 2 small carp, then nothing for a while.
this happened, for most of the match. Had a reasonable 4th hour with a few carp between 4lb and 6lb. There was a few carp in the margins, but could i get a bite. NOPE. Lewis and andy were having a ding dong battle for most of the match, in the corner pegs. Then lewis started to catch more than andy, on a more regular basis. He walked the match in the end. Fair play to the lad, he's only 17. Jon to my left, was using chopped worm throughout the match, and caught steady all match, although they were a smaller stamp of fish. He done me by 7lb. Mark to my right had a nightmare of a match, and finished last. Roy as usual had a first 3 hours moan. He then started to catch, and ended up 4th. That made him happy. Bri dix did'nt have a bite for hours, and ended up third, but he did'nt moan. Nobby's misses must have phoned him 10 times during the match. Every time she phoned, he would swear, and say not again. But when he answered, it was alright love. Yes darling, no darling, okay seetheart bye. Then a bit more swearing when she had hung up. (wonder who wears the trousers in that house). All in all everyone had a good day, banter wise, some actually had a good day's  fishing as well. I came 6th overall, and won a bottle of red wine, and some after eights. No coin again.

WEEKENDS MATCHES.

Well friday's upon us, time to sort out the kit and bait.
For tomorrow's match at sol-hampton, need to set up a few rigs for the pole.
Bait bans are no meat of any kind, no groundbait, no boilies. (don't know why these commercials, just don't ban all baits, and see if we can catch em by tickling). got to use there feed pellets, so can't prepare them the night before. But rules are rules. They supply the landing net, and keepnets. that's a good thing. Heard paste is good here. Now here's a thing for you. Groundbait is banned on most commercials, but yet you see anglers using swim stim paste. Funny old world, ain't it. Any way less of the moaning, so what to take. Hook pellets for one. The good old reliable sweetcorn.
Suppose i could knock up some paste from pellet, and tuna.(try anything once).
Meeting at strensham services on the M5, at 7am. Gawd got to get up at 5am. (did'nt realise there were to 5 o'clocks in one day). Hope i catch regular, or sombody's going to be nodding off.
I will let you know how this went tomorrow evening.

Sunday at drummonds Dubb. Good silver venue, guess what no rules, yep you can use what you want, any method. (except dynamite i suppose).  Some pegs are out and out feeder, and waggler pegs. (the shallows). The rest you can pole fish. If the bream are feeding in the shallow end, you ain't going to beat em. Well thats my opinion any way. Here's a couple of pictures i took of the place a couple of months ago.

Drummond Dubb    my kit in the water.

                                                                      Closer view.

Its a lovely looking lake.
As bait goes. pellet, red maggots, worms, caster, and sweetcorn, is what i shall be taking.
Groundbait of course.
Not to sure what the weather is, i think they said rain, on saturday, not sure about sunday. But with are weather forcasters, its best to just check the sky on the day.
Well i hope you all have a good weekends fishing, were ever you are .
All the best until tomorrow

Sunday 25 October 2009

LYDNEY LAKE, LYDNEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE.

Well another one over. Draw was at 7-45am.
The pegs every body was looking for was peg 1 and 2. Now only 6 anglers turned up,so that was a good start to the day. In went my hand at the draw bag,and out popped peg 6.Farthest away from the bream pegs. another good start. Set up two feeder rods, and a pole for the margins (just in case everything went t--ts up.Set the clip for about 6 feet from the island. The all in went at 8-45am. fed the margins with chopped worm.
Filled the feeder with chopped worm, and groundbait, and cast out.Waited 5 minutes, reeled in, and cast back out.Done this for an hour, and nothing, absolutly diddly squatt. Me thinks this is going to be a hard day.
Checked the margins for 10 minutes, and guess what. Nowt. Started to rain ,and blow a gale.
Good day so far,or what. A voice came from the next peg. You had a fish yet.
Geez i ain't even had a bite. The good news neither has he.So i answered politly,no andy not yet mate.Maybe soon. In situations like this, what can you do,just carry on i suppose. An hour later i heard from a couple of pegs down, this is sh--te,should have stayed in bed with the misses.Imagine if you had a quid every time you heard that.Mind you i was quietly thinking he was right. Had a skimmer of about 12 oz, after the 4th hour, and nearly fell off my box, with excitment. Then to more quick bites resulted in one 2oz perch, and a roach a bit bigger. Then the little voice from the next peg spoke.Had any yet. Yes mate skimmer, and two little u'ns
The answer to that was i can't buy a bite. Never mind andy. Just before the last hour,my rod pulled round, and i lifted into a solid bite. 2 minutes later,a nice bream was in the net, about 3 pound. they've moved in.
Oh no didn't get a touch again from that swim. So last half hour i went down by the reeds on choppy, with worm on the hook.
I could not believe it, i started catching perch, straight away. One after the other, okay they wern't massive, but aye i was catching. The whistle went, to end the match. Packed my kit away, and waited for andy to come with the scales. I weighed in 6lb dead. I thought you never know. Andy blanked,so he had nowt to weigh, to every body's delight. Then pughy weighed in. 7lb-8oz. Then dick 10lb-40z.Well thats the money gone. shaun weighed in next. 2oz.(tee he). Then john 6lb dead, same as me.

results.

  1st Dick Lewis.  Peg 3.  10lb-4oz
Won £40. (i'am not jealous, but i think the tax man should know.

2nd Graham Pugh.  Peg 4.
won £20.

Joint 3rd  John Barnard  Peg 1.  6lb.
Me  Peg 6.  6lb. both won nowt.

 5th. shaun skidmore. Peg 2.   2oz.

6th.  Andy Cooke.  Peg 5.    0lb and 0oz
blankety blank.

Summary.
Well at least we got an extra hours kip last night. it was an hard match, but again it's fishing. If we all caught 100lb, evey match, we would then want to catch 150lb. Pegs 1 and 2 did'nt produce today, so it made it more even. And yes i did hook the island at the start, and yes i did try towing it towards me. Did it work, a big fat snap off said no.

I will check my paper work for the next match, and will let you know.
p.s. I'am saving for a video camera,as i wan't to start filming some matches in the winter, which i won't be fishing,as i want to concentrate on the match, and the anglers,so you can watch  them bag up,or make fools of them selves. So if you could help, and click on a few of the google ads, you see on this site. I will get a couple of cents, for every click. help pay for the cam. Cheers for now, hope you've enjoyed it. Until the next post keep safe, and healthy. See you soon steve.

p.p.s. couple of more pics.

Me with my big un.

See my kits nice and tidy.

my swim peg 6.
