MAGGOTS END
RODS and REELS
This week was the 4th match of the Winter Championship. This is a series of 11 matches with the best 8 to count. The match was held at the Embalse de Argos. The embalse which is now being filled as it was at the lowest we had seen it, appears to have an effect on the fishing. Whether it is cold water being used from the local rivers or being brought in from else where, but the fishing is a struggle. With 22 people fishing only 4 anglers broke the 10 kilo mark. Compared to a year ago the majority of anglers would have been in double figures. One strange point in individual swims was that if pellet caught, then maggot and corn didn´t, and if maggot caught, then other baits didn´t work. Why ?????. It is probably this unknowing that keeps bringing you back ,hoping that one day all will be revealed.
A local conservation firm is currently clearing a lot of trees and undergrowth from the area and next year it will make access and parking better AND we hope the fishing will improve.!!!!!!!
1st Ian ( Irish Wizard ) Dalzell fishing the pole and feeder using pellet with 22.00 kilo´s.
2nd ( Joint ) Alan ( The Webman ) Reid and Pete ( I don´t swear ) Kerr Both fished the feeder with Alan using corn and Pete using maggot with 11.500 kilo´s.
3rd Dave ( Yours Truly ) Hoare fishing the pole and feeder using pellet with 10.75 kilo´s.
Currently the club has a few vacancies for new members if you wish to join please phone Sue Swann,
on 667407026. Membership is €5 joining fee and €20 subscription.
On a personal note Bill Botting, a pleasure to be next to you last week.

MATCH REPORT SUNDAY.
BRRRRRR. First frosts have come.
Only a slight frost, but nevertheless, brass monkey weather is a coming.
8 Turned up today, as some are working, and some are on hols.
No one caught on the pole. We all tried it. So it was mainly feeder work.
No24 guru pellet feeder, with micro pellet, and banded white chocolate pellet,
was the method i used today.
Now my casting accuracy is dodgy on a calm day,so you can imagine what it was like
when it was blowing a gale. The pro's can get it on a dustbin lid, well today i could just
manage to get it on a block of flats. Two pegs to my left, Adrian Davis was a pro.
Hitting the nail on the head, everytime. That's probably why he won the match?
In my match prelude to this, i said this place was Adrian's second home, and for the rest of us it
would be fishing for second spot. Gawd how true that was.
Every one caught, although there was a did not weigh amongst us. I bet all of you reading this
probably thought the no weigher was me. Well it was'nt, so there.
No one broke anything, or fell in. (boring sods). So it was a no mishap day.
I had 11 carp, and lost 4 in five hours, so it was a struggle. A few of the weights were all within 10lb,
so it was a close match really, with the exception of Adrian of course. Fair play to Adrian though
he fishes 4 or 5 times a week, so he is dedicated. Adrian weighed in 61lb, and said it was a struggle.
If thats the case i wish i could struggle like him. Is struggle is a good day to me.
Bri Dix was the best today. He forgot is boots,so he had to wear is trainers. Is feet were
freezing all day. So we did have a laugh today after all.
If i was the owner of the lake, i would have a challenge. Everyone pays a pound, and anyone who
can get from the lakes to the main road ,without hitting a pothole would win a tenner, the owner would make a mint. So lets have a look at the results, and some pics.

Well it's certainly has opened my eyes,
i did not realise so many ex-pats got together, and organised
such events, with the likes of Ian Heaps, and co.
Lived here in England, all of my life, just proves how blinkered i'am.
Once again Dave thanks for giving us the oppertunity to view your stuff.
Okay back to the question i posed on tuesday.
DOES anyone want me to report on there match sunday.
PRETTY, PRETTY, PLEASE.

There's one of is guys, who's had a bad day, catching ony 3 bleak. Now he sounds like he's on the same par as me. Hope to fish against him one day,as we will be catching fish for fish, should be a fair match then?
On a more serious note. Thanks again dave for your time and effort. Who knows maybe one day i might come out and watch a match, take photo's, and give it a write up.
Here,s dave's report below.
MAGGOTS END
RODS and REELS
This weeks match was held on the Embalse de Pedrera, and was the third in the series for the Presidents Cup. The series is four matches with all four counting. How venue´s change, this time last year, fish were abundant with either carp or barbel being caught or kilo´s of bleak. The match this week had 10 blanks!!!!!.
And we have still not got to the cold weather!!!!!. Pete Hampshire is back on suicide watch again this week, as he threw back his grand catch of 3 bleak ( not bad for 61/2 hours fishing ) and thus losing out on winning his section. As for myself I was close to calling the police as I was being murdered by the anglers either side of me???. Although the top weights weren´t bad, they do not reflect the whole match.
Top rods as follows
1st Doug ( Welsh Goldminer ) Hornblow fishing the pole using pellet with 16.850 kilo´s.
2nd Ian ( Irish Wizard ) Dalzell fishing the feeder using pellet with 12.300 kilo´s.
3rd Austin ( Cambridge ) Veith fishing the feeder using pellet with 9.35 kilo´s.
Overall points to date with one match to go
1st Dave Hoare with 15 points
2nd Bill Reade with 16 points
3rd Ian Haughton with 21 points
4th Stuart Taylor with 24 points
So with the fishing so “iffey” it is still anyone´s.

SUNDAY. DRUMMONDS DUBB.
Well here we are again.
What a totally different day from yesterday. rain, and gales. Drummonds is normally a good days fishing,. But especially for me it was terrible. 9 fished today I think the one's who did'nt turn up, were the sensible one's.
Top end of lake is probably between 6ft, and 8ft deep. The middle strech between 4ft, and 5 ft. Bottom of the lake is between 1ft, and 2ft, but you need to cast 35 to 40 yards to reach the deep part. (2ft). So in these conditions you would want to draw the top end, or the middles. What did nogging brain here draw, yup the shallows. Pegs 1 and 2 are in the shallows. peg 3, which is about 50 yards up from peg 2, is the start of the middle section. Pegs 3 to 7 was in the middle stretch. Where pegs 8, 9 ,and 10 were in the deeper end. (these are not all the pegs obviously,as we pegged out to give us more room).
I drew peg 2. set up the feeder,as it was to windy ,and shallow for the pole, but to be honest this peg is a feeder peg, same as peg one. If the bream show in these two pegs, they are hard to beat.
But nobody wanted them today. To cut a long story short, it was cast, watch the rod tip, as soon as you were bored, reel in, fill the feeder, and cast back out. In 5 hours i had 16 fish for 5lb odd.
And to every ones delight finished last. There was a couple of low 20lbs, so they had fun.
Like i said earlier, only 9 turned up, out of 16, so the pay out was quite naff. Mind you coming last i thought that was quite funny.
My highlight of the day was hearing (not seeing which was a shame) graham had slipped down the bank, and went in. Tee he. Well there's not a lot i can say more about this dire day, so i shall give you the results, and some pics of the lake.
1st. Barry matthews. Peg 6.
21-5-0. won £55.
2nd. Dick lewis. Peg 3.
20-10-0. Won £12.
3rd. John barnard. Peg 10.
15-12-0. Won nowt , only
paid top two.
4th. Lewis bolton. Peg 9.
12-3-0.
Lewis won the last two matches 1 with watersmeet, and 1 with angling 2000, (yesterday) so he was on an hat trick.Drew peg 9, one of the fancied pegs, also got the golden peg, which is worth a bit now. He tripped over is own feet getting to is peg. Back down to earth eh lewis. (tee he).
5th. Mmark hewlett. Peg 8.
11-11-0.
6th. Graham (i fell in) pugh.
Peg 5. 7-11-0.
7th. Trevor dix. Peg 7
6-12-0.
8th. Richard bowd. Peg 1.
6-9-0. I don't like my picture
being took. What ever.
9th. Lil ole me.
5-14-0.
Drummons lake.
Dick being weighed.
So thats what they look like.
Coming to peg 3.
Peg 10 is way past
those trees.

TODAY'S MATCH, SOLHAMPTON.
hi all.
Well another one over.
We all met at strensham services. No one was late. (that on its own was an achievment). We had a convoy, to the fishery. Had ourselves a breakfast, and a cup of tea. Bought 3 bags of pellets, two 4mm, and one micro. At the draw i drew peg 24, which really did'nt mean a lot, as i never fished the place before.
Got to my peg and set up for the margins, and out in front of me at 5 metres. Whistle for the all in went at 9.30am. Fed the margins with sweetcorn. Used the toss pot to feed my 6 metre swim. Fed 4mm through the pot. 6 mm on the hook. My match went as follows. 2 small carp, then nothing for a while.
this happened, for most of the match. Had a reasonable 4th hour with a few carp between 4lb and 6lb. There was a few carp in the margins, but could i get a bite. NOPE. Lewis and andy were having a ding dong battle for most of the match, in the corner pegs. Then lewis started to catch more than andy, on a more regular basis. He walked the match in the end. Fair play to the lad, he's only 17. Jon to my left, was using chopped worm throughout the match, and caught steady all match, although they were a smaller stamp of fish. He done me by 7lb. Mark to my right had a nightmare of a match, and finished last. Roy as usual had a first 3 hours moan. He then started to catch, and ended up 4th. That made him happy. Bri dix did'nt have a bite for hours, and ended up third, but he did'nt moan. Nobby's misses must have phoned him 10 times during the match. Every time she phoned, he would swear, and say not again. But when he answered, it was alright love. Yes darling, no darling, okay seetheart bye. Then a bit more swearing when she had hung up. (wonder who wears the trousers in that house). All in all everyone had a good day, banter wise, some actually had a good day's fishing as well. I came 6th overall, and won a bottle of red wine, and some after eights. No coin again.
